Protective clothing for women

Fit is crucial for protection and safety.

Many women working in male-dominated industries have to wear men's clothing on the job. How a garment fits the body affects its protective properties, and it is important that women also have access to clothing that fits them properly.

Carola Regina Dybvik, construction manager at the County Road Department's Nordøyveg project, has spent many a working day in protective clothing, safety equipment, and high-visibility gear.

"Often, only men's clothing is available, and it doesn't fit female body shapes. For example, we frequently have to go up a size for the trousers to fit over the hips, and then the legs end up being far too long. Clothing that doesn't fit properly has a big impact on comfort at work," says Carola.

Designed for the female body

Work garments are designed with a range of technical functions, and every design decision serves a purpose. The way a garment fits the body directly influences how it performs in terms of cold, warmth, moisture, insulation, and airflow.

Devold Protection has developed the protective Basic Long Johns specifically for women working in industry and skilled trades. They feature a sporty design and a form-fitting high-waist cut. Made from 100% soft merino wool, they breathe and keep the body dry and comfortable.

The Devold Spirit double-layer merino wool base layer significantly reduces the risk of second- and third-degree burns in the event of a workplace accident involving high heat. The base layer absorbs moisture from the body and moves it to the outer surface of the garment, where it evaporates. The Spirit model is shaped to fit the female body, as a close, body-conforming fit is essential for the protective properties to perform at their best.

Women's Garments

Women need different garments from men. The Safe Bra wool sports bra is a lightweight, flame-resistant base layer for professionals working with electricity, gas, heat, and open flame. A wool sports bra keeps the body dry and comfortable, with natural protective properties suited to high-risk work environments.

Workwear you thrive in

- "When clothes are only available in men's or unisex sizes, it's hard to know if they'll fit without trying them on first," says Carola Regina Dybvik.

Carola believes this will increasingly become a topic on the agenda as more women choose careers that have traditionally been male-dominated. She appreciates that Devold Protection is investing in protective clothing for women.

Our women's collection comes in vibrant colors and shares many of the same properties as Devold's well-known sports and outdoor wear. We believe in creating comfortable clothing that you enjoy moving in, and that women should have access to workwear and protective gear that actually fits. That should go without saying.
