For more than 170 years, we have made conscious choices that put performance, responsibility, and products made to last at the heart of everything we do. Our mission has always been clear: to protect people working in the most demanding environments. We develop certified wool-based protective garments that combine ethical sourcing, advanced technology, and trusted protection for both people and the environment.
About us
With roots stretching back to 1853, on the rugged west coast of Norway, Ole Andreas Devold set out with one clear goal: quality, warmth, and protection for workers in the field. Today, Devold Protection carries that legacy forward. We develop and manufacture personal protective clothing in wool for demanding work environments.
We offer base layers, mid layers, socks, and headwear, all designed for professional users in industries including oil and gas, energy, fire and rescue, manufacturing, and defence. We combine certified protection with wearer comfort and responsible sourcing.
• Wool is a natural fiber with outstanding thermal regulation, moisture management, and comfort.
• Non-mulesed merino wool from Uruguay as the core fiber.
• Products certified and developed with the toughest working environments in mind.
Technological leadership
We changed the industry standard. In the 1990s, Devold's wool base layers were tested by SGS against the EN 531 standard, a standard that originally applied to outer garments. The test results on our garments were so strong that the standard itself was revised. From that point forward, base layers were also required to comply with the same regulations and meet the same safety requirements as outer garments. This was a breakthrough that established Devold Protection as a driving force in the development of modern PPE and set a new benchmark for flame-resistant garments worn closest to the skin.
The user at the centre
We know that the people wearing our garments face critical situations where the equipment must perform. Every single time. We don't compromise.
Long experience
With more than 170 years in textile production for demanding environments, we have built unique knowledge of how natural fiber and technology deliver maximum protection.
Our history, in brief
In 1853, Ole Andreas Devold began textile production in Ålesund, using knitting machines brought from Germany. Production later moved to Langevåg, where a hydroelectric power plant was built, and the company was among the first in Norway to have electric lighting and a telephone. Innovation and responsibility have always been at the core of our business. And they still are, for Devold Protection.
Our vision
Protection driven by nature. We will be the first choice for professionals who refuse to compromise on safety, quality, and comfort. With Devold Protection, you don't just get certified safety. You get garments developed to protect lives, made with respect for people and for nature.
