With roots dating back to 1853 on the rugged west coast of Norway, Ole Andreas Devold began a clear mission: deliver quality, warmth, and safety for outdoor workers. Today, Devold Protection carries that legacy forward. We develop and manufacture wool-based personal protective garments for demanding professional environments.
We supply base layers, mid-layers, socks, and headwear designed for professional users in sectors such as oil and gas, energy, fire and rescue, industrial operations, and defence. We combine certified protection with user comfort and responsible material choices.

Technological Leadership
We rewrote industry standards. In the 1990s, Devold´s wool base layer was tested by SGS according to EN 531, a standard originally intended for outerwear. The performance of our garments exceeded expectations to such a degree that the standard itself changed. From that point on, base layers were formally included in the same regulatory framework, meaning they had to be evaluated under equivalent safety requirements as outerwear. This breakthrough anchored Devold Protection as a catalyst in modern PPE development and set a new benchmark for next-to-skin flame-resistant performance.

A Brief History
In 1853, Ole Andreas established textile production in Ålesund using machinery imported from Germany. Operations later moved to Langevåg, where a hydropower plant was built, and the company became one of the first in Norway with electric lighting and telephone service. Innovation and responsibility have always been core values, and they continue to guide Devold Protection today.
